SUBJECT: Request for Proposals Regarding Support Programs for New Teachers in High
    Need Schools and Subject Areas
ement in Florida’s drive toward increasing student
achievement and sustaining that achievement over time. Students who are attending our schools and
classrooms that, for a variety of reasons, are traditionally hard to staff are in greatest need of high
performing teachers. To increase our support for these students, we are releasing this request for
proposal (RFP) so that districts may compete for funds to implement programs to support teachers who
are newly-placed in these schools, classrooms, and/or subject areas.
The attached RFP includes specific details about eligible districts, timelines and application requirements.
The Department will be collecting data throughout this process so that we can learn best practices and
successful tools from a variety of settings that may be then supported statewide.
Any superintendent who is considering an application submission in response to this RFP must fax a brief
memorandum expressing his/her intent to apply to the Bureau of Educator Recruitment, Development
and Retention, attention Kathy Hebda, at fax number 850-245-0543 no later than close of business
    Monday, October 17, 2005
. The brief memorandum should include the name and email address of your
designee who will serve as the contact for this RFP. An intent to apply will allow your district to participate
in the question and answer phase of the application process, but is not a commitment to submit an
    application.
Improving and providing continuous high-quality support and training for our teachers is some of our most
important work, and I encourage you to participate in this process.
