Promoting Agricultural Education
PROGRAM:
The U.S. Department of Agriculture invites applications for
projects to promote and strengthen agriscience and agribusiness education
at secondary and two-year postsecondary institutions. They strive to
enhance curricula, increase faculty teaching competencies, promote higher
education, incorporate agriscience or agribusiness subject matter into other
instructional programs, facilitate joint initiatives among other educational
institutions, and respond to identified State, regional, national or
international educational needs.
DEADLINE:
January 12, 2006.

FUNDING:
Total award of
$1 million; individual awards up to $35,000 for a
regular project and $50,000 for a joint project. The project period is 18 to
24 months.
ELIGIBILITY:
Public secondary schools or public or private nonprofit junior
and community colleges. Schools may partner with institutions that are not
directly eligible to apply.

Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need / Office of
Postsecondary Education / U. S. Department of Education
(USDE)
Offering Fellowships to Those In Need
PROGRAM:
The Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need program is
designed to provide fellowships in areas of national need. This program will
assist graduate students with excellent academic records who demonstrate
financial need and plan to pursue the highest degree available in their
courses of study. The areas of national need include biology, chemistry,
computer and information sciences, engineering, geological and related
sciences, mathematics, nursing, and physics.
DEADLINE:
November 14, 2005.
FUNDING:
Awards range from $126,000 to $253,000.
ELIGIBILITY:
Institutions of higher education, other organizations and/or
agencies, academic departments and programs of institutions of higher
education. Non-degree granting institutions may submit joint proposals with
degree-granting institutions of higher education.

Education Partnerships – Alternative Education/Public
Private Partnerships / Florida Department of Education
(FDOE)
Providing Funding for Education Partnerships
PROGRAM:
The Education Partnerships – Alternative Education/Public
Private Partnerships program is designed to provide funding for new
Education Partnerships (EP) serving disruptive and low-performing students
in grades 6-12. Education Partnerships funded through this project are
classified as either large (300 or more students served) or small (75
students served in a school district with fewer than 20,000 full-time
equivalent students).
DEADLINE:
October 31, 2005.
FUNDING:
$6,000,000 to fund existing and new Education Partnerships
($5,000,000 for large programs; $1,000,000 for small programs).
ELIGIBILITY:
All Florida school districts. (Note: Priority will be given to
proposals from school districts that have not previously received funding for
Education Partnerships – Alternative Education/Public Private Partnerships).

Educator Grant Program / Aerospace Education Foundation
(AEF)
Developing Innovative Aerospace Activities
PROGRAM:
The Educator Grant program is designed to promote aerospace
education activities in classrooms from kindergarten through twelfth grades.
The program encourages development of innovative aerospace activities
within the prescribed curriculum. The program also encourages establishing
an active relationship between the school and the local Air Force Association
organization.
DEADLINE:
November 15, 2005.
FUNDING:
Up to $250 per award.
ELIGIBILITY:
Teachers in grades K-12 or home schools.

Olympus/Tool Factory Visual Learning Contest
Supporting Visual Learning Projects
PROGRAM:
Camera maker Olympus and software company, Tool Factory,
are making grants to support educators’ visual learning projects that
effectively and creatively use digital cameras and software.
DEADLINE:
December 30, 2005.
FUNDING:
Ten awards packages valued at more than $3,500 each,
including three 4.0 megapixel cameras, photo software, 30 “digital camera
basics” workbooks and $500 to cover other project costs.
ELIGIBILITY:
Educators at K-12 and special education schools in the U.S.
and Canada.

Toyota USA Foundation
Encouraging Education in Math and Science
PROGRAM:
The Toyota USA Foundation has been working for over a decade
to fund K-12 education programs, especially in the areas of mathematics
and science. The foundation has formed partnerships with some of America’s
leading organizations and institutions and prefers proposals which are broad
in scope; incorporate interdisciplinary curriculum, “real world” classroom
applications; are creative and innovative; develop the potential of students
and teachers; and are cost-effective.

FUNDING:
Varies.
ELIGIBILITY:
Nonprofit 501(c)3 organizations, institutions of higher
education, community colleges and vocational or trade schools, and
nonprofit organizations engaged in pre-college math or science.

Using Music to Teach Mathematics / National Council of
Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM)
Improving Student Academic Achievement through Music
PROGRAM:
The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) makes
grants to teachers for projects that improve student academic achievement
by using music to teach mathematical skills and concepts to K-2 students.
This award is for individual classroom teachers or small groups of teachers
collaborating in one grade or across grade levels. Entries will be judged on
the following criteria: combining mathematics and music; clarity of a plan for
improving students’ learning of mathematics; creativity of the plan, and the
anticipated impact on student achievement.
DEADLINE:
November 4, 2005.
FUNDING:
Up to $3,000 per award.
ELIGIBILITY:
NCTM member (individual or school) K-2 math teachers or
small groups collaborating in one grade or across grade levels.
