Athletic Coaching Endorsement-Certificate Requirements
Rule 6A-4.0282, FAC.
The requirements for certification in athletic coaching have been amended to add the study of
the dangers and effects of drug use, including performance enhancing drugs and a valid
cardiopulmonary resuscitation certificate (CPR) issued by the American Heart Association or the
American Red Cross. These new requirements will increase the level of safety and provide for
immediate response in certain critical situations during athletic activities and will ensure that
coaches have information regarding the harmful effects of performance enhancing drugs.
The rule change is effective October 26, 2005. Thus, initial applications received on or after
October 26, 2005 for the endorsement in athletic coaching or the Statement of Eligibility for the
five-year athletic coaching certificate will have the new certification requirements. School district
add-on endorsement programs will also need to be revised to include the new requirements.
The Bureau of Educator Recruitment, Development, and Retention will be communicating
information relative to the add-on program requirements. The new rule text is:
6A-4.0282 Specialization Requirements for the Endorsement in Athletic Coaching--
