Annie’s Homegrown Cases for Causes
Area Centers for Educational Enhancement – K-20 Partnership (FDOE)
PROGRAM
:
The Florida Department of Education (FDOE) invites proposals to become one
of six regional Area Centers for Educational Enhancement (ACEE). The ACEE play an integral
role in the implementation of statewide K-20 initiatives sponsored by the FDOE. The primary
role of the Centers is to supplement local efforts of districts and institutions of higher education
in the ongoing professional development of administrators, teachers and paraprofessionals.
DEADLINE
: August 14, 2002, for
Intent to Submit
form; September 10, 2002, for proposals.
FUNDING
: Total $4,646,132. The project award maximums for each of the six Centers may
vary and will depend upon the scope of the services outlined in the application and the
recommendations of an external review committee. Project period is three years.

High Schools/High Tech State Grants (DoL)
PROGRAM
: The U.S. Department of Labor (DoL), Office of Disability Employment Policy is
seeking applications to connect local high school/high tech programs, which give youths with
disabilities the opportunity to explore technology careers, to state youth career development
resources under the Workforce Investment Act.
DEADLINE
: August 21, 2002.
FUNDING
: $100,000 to $250,000 each for up to five grants. The project period is two years.
ELIGIBILITY
: State workforce investment boards, education agencies, labor department,
developmental disability councils and vocational rehabilitation agencies; state committees
affiliated with governor’s committees for people with disabilities or other similar state entities;
and American Indian tribes. Each grantee must involve representatives of at least three other
eligible entities in strategic planning and implementation activities, with the state workforce
board constituting a mandatory partner.

University Research Initiative (DoD)
PROGRAM
: The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) is seeking applications for
multidisciplinary basic science and engineering research of critical importance to national
defense.
DEADLINE
: November 20, 2002.
FUNDING
: $100 million over five years. Awards generally average $1 million per year for
three years, renewable for two additional years.
ELIGIBILITY
: Higher education institutions with degree programs in science and/or
engineering.

Summer Stipends (NEH)
PROGRAM
: National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Summer Stipends provide an
outright grant of $5,000 for two consecutive months of full-time research and writing. All
research projects should contribute to scholarly knowledge or the public’s understanding of the
humanities. Projects may be completed during the duration of the award period, or grants may
underwrite a portion of a long-term endeavor.
DEADLINE
: October 1, 2002.
FUNDING
: $5,000 per grant.
ELIGIBILITY
: U.S. citizens or foreign nationals who have lived in the United States or its
jurisdictions for at least the past three years.

New Wireless Reading Intervention Program Scholarships
PROGRAM
: IndiVisual Learning, a provider of engaging academic intervention programs, in
co-sponsorship with Hewlett-Packard, will award two $25,000 Read for Life scholarships to two
deserving public, private, charter or parochial schools throughout the country. Schools must
demonstrate financial need, or high ESL, ELL or LEP population and a staff dedicated to
working with technology-based education solutions.
DEADLINE
: September 15, 2002.
FUNDING
: Two $25,000 Read for Life scholarships. Each Read for Life scholarship includes a
wireless mobile lab with five in-class computer based reading workstations and three years of
unlimited student use of IndiVisual Reading.

We Love Books Contest
PROGRAM
: Sagebrush Corporation’s Fall 2002 Book Making Contest, We Love Books, asks
K-6 students to create books filled with love letters and poems to their favorite authors or books.

Classes must write, illustrate, and bind an original book titled We Love Books, and list the many
reasons a book or author is admired.
DEADLINE
: Applications will be accepted between August 26, 2002, and November 30, 2002.
FUNDING
: First Place - $500 worth of free books, t-shirts for winning students and teachers.
Second place - $250 worth of free books. Third place - $100 worth of free books. Best in state –
$50 worth of free books to the most creative entry winner per each of the 50 states.
ELIGIBILITY
: Public and private school K-6 classrooms.

: The Calvin K. Kazanjian Economics Foundation seeks to help bring greater
happiness and prosperity to all through a better understanding of economics.

PROGRAM
: YouthActionNet will make awards to youth leaders who, through their projects,
work to promote social change and connect youth with local communities. In addition to the
grant, YouthActionNet will provide funds for a disposable camera to document the sponsored
project for an online photo gallery.

Annie’s Homegrown Cases for Causes
PROGRAM
: Annie’s Homegrown, manufacturers of all-natural macaroni and cheese, donate
cases of macaroni to nonprofits working with women and children, in education, or for the
environment. Preference goes to applications that are submitted online, give at least 90 days
before the request is needed, have a specific amount of cases requested, and use donations
directly and in a creative manner. In addition, organizations that are willing to pay for shipping
will have a higher likelihood of receiving a donation.
DEADLINE
: Open.
FUNDING
: Up to 10 cases (120 boxes) of Annie’s Homegrown natural macaroni and cheese.
ELIGIBILITY
: Nonprofits working in the areas of education, the environment, or women and
children.
