2002-2003 Course Code Directory

Certification Update

The State Board of Education has approved changes in certification effective for the 2002-2003 school

year. The change creates new certification coverages and one new endorsement effective July 1, 2002.

The two new subject coverages are Elementary Education (grades K-6) and Exceptional Student

Education (grades K-12). The new endorsement area is Autism.

Additionally, the names of two exceptional student education (ESE) endorsements have been changed to

reflect updated terminology. The updated names for the two other ESE endorsements are Severe and

Profound Disabilities and Prekindergarten Disabilities.

The appropriate sections and courses in the

Course Code Directory

for the 2002-2003 school year have

been revised in the

electronic version

(Northwest Regional Data Center) to incorporate these recent

changes in the certification structure and to reflect the additional certification options. Please note that

the changes are

not

reflected in the most recent printed version. These changes do not alter nor eliminate

any of the existing certification options for teaching a course.
