INVITATION TO MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL HIV/AIDS AND
PREGNANCY PREVENTION WORKSHOPS: “
PROMOTING
PREVENTION TOGETHER”
The Department of Education’s Office of Safe and Healthy Schools Coordinated School Health
Program (CSHP) is sponsoring a fall workshop on human immunodeficiency virus (HIV),
sexually transmitted diseases (STD) and pregnancy prevention for teachers, school nurses,
Department of Health personnel, school social workers, and parents, titled
Promoting
Prevention Together
. This workshop will be offered on
September 8, 2005, in Ft. Myers, at
the Holiday Inn Belltower Hotel, Bell Tower Drive, 8:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
The workshop is offered in collaboration with school districts, Lee County Health Department,
Florida Department of Health Abstinence Projects, American Red Cross, North East Florida

Education Consortium and Everglades Area Health Education Center. Participants will learn
about partnering with community and state education agencies in order to supplement their
school based programs. Professional development workshops such as this exemplify a keen
focus on increasing the supply of highly effective teachers as set forth by Florida State Board of
Education 2004-05 Strategic Plan.
District health coordinators, school district instructional staff, school nurses, school social
workers, staff from local health departments, and parents are encouraged to participate. School
districts will be reimbursed for the substitutes of teachers who attend these workshops, if needed.
The workshop will be limited to the first 100 participants who register. Certificates of
attendance will be provided to participants who wish to apply for Continuing Education Units.
Please find attached a tentative agenda, a registration form, and an invoice for teacher
substitutes.
The registration form should be submitted via fax by September 1, 2005, to
Rachel Purcell at the North East Florida Education Consortium, (386) 312-2262, or by mail
to 3841 Reid Street, Palatka, Florida 32177.
The teacher substitute form must be submitted by fax to the Florida Department of Education,
Coordinated School Health Program after the workshop at (850) 245-5116.
