of additional time to master competencies, it is important to ensure that the students are awarded
appropriate course credit.
Attached for your information is the technical assistance paper (TAP),
Reporting and Awarding
Credit to Secondary Students with Disabilities in Career Education
. The purposes of the paper are
to (1) clarify the course modifications rule for students with disabilities; (2) provide examples of
circumstances under which secondary students with disabilities might enroll in the same course
more than once in secondary or dual enrollment programs; and, (3) explain how to report and award
appropriate credit to such students. This TAP replaces the one addressing this topic that was
originally disseminated in 1999. This TAP will be available on the Bureau of Exceptional
Education and Student Services web site at http://www.firn.edu/doe/commhome/pub-home.htm.
We hope this information will assist staff as they document student outcomes and refine data
reporting practices. For further information or assistance, contact Dr. Janet Adams, Bureau of
Exceptional Education and Student Services, or Ms. Jane Silveria, Division of Community Colleges
and Workforce Education, at the contact information listed on the first page of this document.
