    SUBJECT: Upcoming Protocol Reviewer Training

As we continue our efforts to implement the Professional Development Protocol,
    we are
seeking additional qualified individuals interested in serving as reviewers to conduct the
on-site district professional development system reviews.
    Each year approximately 25
districts will be reviewed. In 2005-06 we are visiting 26 districts and 3 professional development
schools. Each review lasts approximately 1-4 days. To train reviewers, we will conduct two-day
training sessions in Tallahassee, Florida, on August 17-18, 2005, and in Orlando, Florida, on
    August 23-24, 2005.

The Department is soliciting experts in professional development to serve as reviewers for the
onsite reviews to be conducted in school districts. Reviewers for the new Protocol System will be
drawn from two sources: Department staff (including affiliate offices such as FDLRS), and
district professional development staff both active and retired. Additional reviewers will be
drawn from Institutions of Higher Education (IHE) with approved programs for teacher
education, Educator Preparation Institutes (EPI), and from regional consortia such as the
Panhandle Area Educational Consortium (PAEC), Crown Consortium, Heartland Educational
Consortium (HEC), and Northeast Florida Educational Consortium (NEFEC).

The Department also is soliciting professional development directors and coordinators located in
local school districts that will be willing to participate in the reviews. Qualifications for
    reviewers are:

Department of Education, IHE, regional consortium, or school district staff member

5 years or more in administrative positions in Florida education systems

2 years or more experience in planning, conducting, and/or administering professional
    development programs

Reviewers must make a commitment to conduct at least two reviews during the year for a total
commitment of 6-10 days over the course of the year and to participate in a two-day training
session to prepare for the role of reviewer. Reimbursement for travel and per diem expenses for
attending the training and serving as a reviewer will be provided through the Department at
    approved rates.

We welcome your participation to improve professional development in our state. The reviewer
application is available online at http://www.floridaleaders.net/reviewerapp.php. Please have

provide valuable contributions to improving the quality of professional development programs in
Florida. For further information, contact Henry Pollock, Program Director, Educator Retention,
