SUBJECT:
Recommendations for Dual Enrollment Course Equivalency List
Dual enrollment with community colleges continues to increase every year, supporting the Florida
Department of Education’s mission “to increase the proficiency of all students within one seamless,
efficient system”. Opportunities to earn college credit while enrolled in high school have become widely
accepted, contribute to future success at the college and university level, and serve as a sound measure of
academic rigor. Dual enrollment participation exemplifies a keen focus on planning and a collaborative
approach to meeting the challenges set forth by Florida’s “
Eight to Be Great!” Strategic Imperatives
.
As dual enrollment continues to grow, so too does the need for ongoing review of the courses offered to
students. For this reason, we are again asking for school districts and community colleges to submit their
recommendations for courses to be added to the “Dual Enrollment Course Equivalency List”, which
provides high school credit equivalencies for courses taken through dual enrollment. Faculty committees
will review these recommendations and submit course additions for approval to the Articulation
Coordinating Committee and the State Board of Education. While the “Dual Enrollment Course
Equivalency List” guarantees courses that meet high school graduation requirements statewide, other
courses can be offered to meet local considerations, including critical workforce needs, magnet programs,
and scholarship assurances. Courses offered beyond the state equivalency list should be clearly outlined
in the Interinstitutional Articulation Agreements and include locally defined high school subject and
credit equivalencies.

As you plan and submit your Interinstitutional Articulation Agreements, consider the dual enrollment
courses you would like to add and submit the attached request.
The deadline for submissions to be
included in the Dual Enrollment Course review is September 23, 2005.
Submissions received after
the September 23 deadline will be held over for review in the next cycle. Moving the deadline for
submissions to a September date has allowed for the final approval from the State Board of Education in
January (rather than in the spring), providing a more timely notification to high school students planning
to register in March or April for the upcoming school year.
Dual Enrollment additions are posted on the www.FACTS.org website, under Advising Manuals, as well
as in the
Florida Counseling for Future Education Handbook
. The updates from last year’s review reflect
the addition of college English, Math, Foreign Language, and Science (with Lab) courses to earn a full
high school credit. The effective date of these additions is August 2005.
Submissions can be made using the attached form and can be emailed directly to Pamela Kerouac at
pamela.kerouac@fldoe.org or faxed to 850-245-9542. Please feel free to contact Dr. Kerouac at 850-245-
9558 with questions or concerns.
Thank you for your participation in this process!
