Providing Grants for Research in Education Policy
PROGRAM:
The American Educational Research Association (AERA) will
provide small grants, fellowships, and training through the AERA Grants
program for researchers supporting education policy and practice using data
from at least one of the large-scale data sets supported by the National
Center for Education Statistics and the National Science Foundation.
DEADLINE:
September 1, 2005.
FUNDING:
For research grants: eight grants yearly of $20,000 for one-
year projects or up to $35,000 for two-year projects. For dissertation
grants: 10 awards of $15,000 for one-year projects are anticipated.
ELIGIBILITY:
Research grants are available for faculty at institutions of
higher education, postdoctoral researchers and other doctoral-level

researchers. Dissertation grants are available for advanced doctoral
students at the dissertation writing stage.

Ezra Jack Keats Foundation Library Mini-Grants
Improving Children’s Lives through Literacy and Creativity
PROGRAM:
The Ezra Jack Keats Foundation’s Mini-Grants program is
designed to improve children’s lives by increasing literacy, inspiring
creativity, and enhancing their appreciation of the arts.
DEADLINE:
September 15, 2005.
FUNDING:
Mini-grants of $350 each.
ELIGIBILITY:
Public libraries and public school libraries.

School, Home and Office Products Association (SHOPA)
Kids in Need Foundation Teacher Grants
Recognizing Exceptional Teachers
PROGRAM:
Kids In Need Teacher Grants provide K-12 educators with
funding to help them realize their dreams of providing innovative learning
opportunities for their students. The SHOPA Kids In Need Foundation helps
to engage students in the learning process by supporting our most creative
and important educational resource — our nation's teachers.
DEADLINE:
September 30, 2005.
FUNDING:
170-200 grants ranging from $100
- $500. Winning projects are
put in the form of lesson plans and are published as a
Best Practices Guide
which is distributed to other teachers through the Kids in Need Resource
Centers and from the Foundation office.

ELIGIBILITY:
Certified K-12 teachers. Lesson plans are judged according
to their innovativeness and merit, clarity of objectives, replication feasibility,
suitability of evaluation methods, and cost effectiveness.

Surdna Arts Teachers Fellowship Program
Giving Artists More Opportunities to Be Effective
PROGRAM:
The Surdna Foundation strives to promote outstanding arts
teachers in specialized, public arts high schools. The Foundation recognizes
that teachers often lack the time and resources to connect with other arts
professionals. Through the Surdna Arts Teachers Fellowship Program, artists
will be given the opportunity to interact with other professional artists in
their fields. Surdna believes that this approach to professional development
will enhance the effectiveness of arts teachers and will directly benefit the
young people they teach.
DEADLINE:
November 18, 2005.
FUNDING:
Twenty awards of up to $5,000 each, and a complementary
grant of $1,500 to the fellow's school to support post-fellowship activities,
will be made. The fellowship award may be used to defray the costs of
tuition and other fees, room and board, travel, purchase of materials and/or
equipment for personal art-making, childcare and other relevant expenses.
ELIGIBILITY:
All permanently assigned full- and part-time arts faculty in
specialized, public arts high schools are eligible. Teachers of the visual arts
(including film, video, and other media), theatre arts, music, dance and
creative writing are invited to apply. Applicants must have been teaching
arts in high school for a minimum of 5 years, and plan to continue as an arts
teacher in 2006-07. Previous fellowship recipients cannot re-apply.

Toshiba America Foundation
Enhancing Classroom Teaching
PROGRAM:
Toshiba America Foundation en
courages programs, projects,
and activities which have the potential to improve classroom teaching in
science and mathematics. They have a strong focus on projects designed to
increase awareness of the environment.
DEADLINE:
No deadline for grants for 7
th through 12
th grade programs
seeking less than $5,000. Requests for more than $5,000 must be received
by August 1, 2005, for September consideration. K-6
th grade programs
seeking funding are due October 1, 2005. Applicants are strongly
encouraged to contact the foundation before or during the proposal
preparation process.
