SUBJECT:
Award of Credit for Dual Enrollment Courses
Section 229.551, Florida Statutes (F.S.), requires the Articulation
Coordinating Committee to recommend to the State Board of
Education dual enrollment courses identified to meet high school
graduation requirements. Once approved, these courses must be
accepted by all high schools toward meeting the designated high
school graduation requirements. Through a process that included
faculty committees and surveys, the Articulation Coordinating
Committee compiled a list of the dual enrollment courses that will
meet high school graduation requirements. This list also includes
the level of credit that must be awarded once the course has
successfully been completed.
The Articulation Coordinating Committee recommendations were
put forward to the Florida Board of Education at its June 18th
meeting for review and approval prior to submission to the State
Board of Education. (See attached.)

Final approval of this list by the State Board of Education is
€
expected in August. Once approved, school districts will be
€
required to implement the following changes to their local
€
articulation agreements:
€
•
eligible students must be allowed to enroll in the approved
courses if offered for dual enrollment by the local
postsecondary institution; and
•
upon completion of an approved dual enrollment course,
students must receive the specified award of credit.
The school district and local postsecondary institution may
designate other postsecondary courses not on this list as
available for dual enrollment. In such instances, the school
district and postsecondary institution are to agree on the
satisfaction of high school requirements.
In addition, school districts are not precluded from awarding
subject area credit for those dual enrollment courses guaranteed
to receive elective credit. However, high school subject area
credit is only guaranteed for the courses on the approved list at
this time. Our intent is to continue to build upon the approved
list through the work of the Articulation Coordinating
Committee and statewide faculty committees.
We distribute these materials to you now so that you may advise
your guidance staff and the students that will be impacted
beginning with this new school year. Once the State Board of
Education approves this dual enrollment list it will be
distributed again.
Should you have questions about this dual enrollment list,
please contact Mr. Matthew Bouck at (850) 922-0344 or
Matthew.Bouck@FLDOE.org. Thank you for your attention to
this matter.
