SUBJECT:
2005-2006 SUCCEED Florida – Teaching
The 2005 Legislative session authorized $5,000,000 to increase the capacity of teacher
certifications at public and private postsecondary institutions in an effort to increase the number
of teachers that enter Florida’s workforce. Public and private postsecondary educational
institutions are eligible to apply. Funds must be used to support new students and are not to
supplant current funding or students. Institutions applying for funds shall not reduce funding or
the current level of enrollment in its existing program. Any such reduction will result in a
prorata reduction in funding.
To assist in preparing the application, the Florida Department of Education has scheduled a
conference call for Thursday, June 9, 2005, from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. EDT. The call-in numbers are:
toll free (800) 416-4254, local (850) 922-2903, or SunCom 292-2903. Due to a limited number of
available lines, institutions are asked to make arrangements to call in from one central location per
campus. The purpose of the conference call is to provide technical assistance related to the
development, implementation, and evaluation of expanded teaching preparation programs in Florida.
All relevant staff members are encouraged to participate.
