Requests for Proposals: State Farm Florida Service-Learning and Home Safety Initiative

The Florida Education Foundation is partnering with State Farm Insurance and the State Farm Companies
Foundation to support student advocacy and information campaigns to raise awareness about the importance of
building codes and disaster preparation. Florida public schools and public and private institutions of higher
education can receive funds to have students learn about these issues and educate their peers, parents, and the public
about them. This innovative partnership was formed in the wake of Florida’s four hurricanes in 2004.

The Department is coordinating with the Florida Education Foundation in releasing this application package to allow
adequate planning and development by applicants. Funds will be awarded in two rounds of application. At least
$110,000 will be available for one-year awards. Applicants may apply for up to $7,500.

THE DEADLINE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS FOR ROUND 1 IS JULY 22, 2005.
THE DEADLINE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS FOR ROUND 2 IS SEPTEMBER 22, 2005.

The goals of the program are to help both students—who will apply academic learning and skills through
experiential service—and communities, which will be better prepared for future disasters.

The application guidelines contain full details and instructions. For further information, please contact Joe Follman,
Florida Learn & Serve, at 850-488-9661 (SunCom 278-9661). The request for proposals is also available on the
Florida Learn & Serve web site (www.fsu.edu/~flserve).
