The following information is being provided to assist districts in purchasing electronic service tools for

engines, transmissions, and ABS brake systems found on Florida school buses. The tables contain

descriptions, part numbers, and prices for the latest available electronic service tools for the major

manufacturing companies supplying powertrain products for school buses. Prices shown are subject to

change. You’ll also find some manufacturers’ product sheets and photographs attached that will provide

additional information.

INTERNATIONAL TRUCK AND

Personal Computer (PC) based diagnostics:

The items in the table below are required for PC based diagnostics. When used with a laptop or

desktop PC (not included), this equipment will allow diagnosis of the engine management

systems of all pre and post October 1, 1997 International engines. International Truck and

Engine Corporation is not producing any new software/updates for hand-held diagnostic (Pro-

Link) tools although they still work where applicable.

The Government Sales Department of SPX Corporation at (877) 222-6285 or FAX (800) 578

7375 (attn government sales) is offering government pricing for the items shown in the table

below for International Truck and Engine Corporation engine diagnostic equipment. Prices

shown are subject to change.

Note: The laptop or desktop computer that is required for diagnosing International Truck and

Engine Corporation products with MD Fleet software can be multi tasked with software

used for diagnosing other manufacturer’s products and for other purposes.

Note: Some school districts may already have one or both of the breakout boxes and/or the

multi-meter shown in the table below. This equipment is still needed to perform certain

diagnostic functions using the PC based tools.

CATERPILLAR

Hand-held Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) based diagnostic tool (Pocket Tec)

Caterpillar Pocket Tec kits are now available as another diagnostic tool option. Pocket Tec is used with a hand-held

personal digital assistant (PDA), commonly known as a Palm Pilot. There are two editions of the Pocket Tec tool:

Driver and Fleet. The Fleet edition will likely be more useful to bus garages as it has many more capabilities.

Information for the Pocket Tec is attached. Both editions are available through your local authorized Caterpillar

Dealer. Prices range from $499 to $535 and are subject to change.

CUMMINS

Hand-held Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) based diagnostic tool (QUICK CHECK II)

Quick Check II is a data reader that works directly with a Palm III, Palm VII, Palm V, Handera TRGPro, or Handera

330 PDA with the use of a Dock V Pro Adapter. The Palm models are all currently out of production but can be

found new or refurbished at various locations on the Internet. The two Handera models are currently available at

retail centers or through www.handera.com. The Quick Check II is a read data only tool for any electronic diesel

engine and will access most electronic brake and transmission data. Attached is information on the Quick Check II.

GENERAL MOTORS

Personal Computer (PC) Based Diagnostics

The GM Tech II Tool is the only GM offered diagnostic tool. It will diagnose engine, ABS, and

transmissions on all GM vehicles. It is updateable and requires a Tech Line computer to

download the updates. It also requires a user subscription issued at the discretion of GM Tech
