SUBJECT: New Rule 6B-5.0012, FAC, Florida Principal Leadership Standards
Improving the quality of school leadership at all levels is a major strategic imperative of the
Florida Department of Education. In support of that effort, I am pleased to announce that the
State Board of Education has approved new the Florida Principal Leadership Standards, which
focus on the role of school leaders as instructional leaders. Hundreds of principals, school
district staff, statewide professional organizations, and institutions that have approved
educational leadership programs from across the state contributed to the development of these
standards.
Next steps have begun with development of the indicators for achievement and competencies
which will be used to revise the Florida Educational Leadership Examination (FELE).
Additional information about FELE re-development and program review for Educational
Leadership programs will be forthcoming shortly.
