SUBJECT:
Professional Development for Charter School Staff
As we approach the end of the 2004-05 school year, I would like to remind you that pursuant to Title II,
Part A of the No Child Left Behind Act, 20 U.S.C. 6601 et. seq. and 20 U.S.C. 7221b.(b)(2)(B), charter
school staff in your school district are to be included in appropriate professional development activities
taking place over the summer months. As part of Florida’s public school system, charter school staff
should have access to district-sponsored professional development unless alternative arrangements are
specified and mutually agreed to in the charter contract. For Florida to continue to lead the nation in
rising student achievement, it is important that we reach as many teachers as possible through
professional development activities.
Please contact Karen Bennett, charter school specialist in the Office of Independent Education and
Parental Choice, if you have questions or concerns about this memorandum. She may be reached at 850-
245-0502 or karen.bennett@fldoe.org.
