Third Grade Progression Technical Assistance Document

We are pleased to provide this technical assistance document on the topic of third grade
progression. As the school year draws to a close, there are a number of issues to be considered
for these students. It is our intent to provide timely answers in this document to a variety of
questions that have been posed to us over the past few months.
Several issues of note:

The State Board of Education set the cut score at or above the 45
th
percentile for the NRT
portion (SAT-10) of the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) on May 17,
2005. This score will also serve as the cut score for the parallel form of the

SAT-10 which may be used as the alternative assessment at the end of summer reading
camp. For districts choosing to use the SAT-9 as the alternative assessment, the cut score
remains at or above the 51
st
percentile.

Districts are strongly encouraged to administer the alternative assessment at the end of
summer camp. The purpose of these camps is to give struggling readers an extended
period of intense intervention.
