    Assisting Colleges and Universities While They Help Communities
     
    PROGRAM:
    The Hispanic Serving Institutions Assisting Communities
    (HSIAC) program will help colleges and universities expand their role and
    effectiveness in addressing community development needs in their
    communities, including neighborhood revitalization and housing and
    economic development.
     
    DEADLINE:
    June 13, 2005.
     
    FUNDING:
    No more than $600,000 for a 3 year period.
     
    ELIGIBILITY:
    Accredited, degree-granting public or private nonprofit
    institutions of higher education with at least a 25 percent full-time
    undergraduate, low-income, Hispanic, student enrollment. See website for

    Learning in the Arts for Children and Youth / National
    Endowment for the Arts (NEA)
    Incorporating Arts in Education
     
    PROGRAM:
    The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) is committed to
    bringing art education into the lives of children and youth. The NEA states
    that for people to understand and appreciate the arts, they must have a
    quality education in the arts. Learning in the Arts requires the following
    components in all projects: experience, study, performance, and
    assessment.
     
     
    DEADLINE:
    June 13, 2005.
     
    FUNDING:
    Awards range from $5,000 to $150,000; matching funds
    required.
     
    ELIGIBILITY:
    Nonprofit 501(c)3 organizations, units of state or local
    government, federally-recognized tribal communities or tribes.

    Youthbuild / Housing and Urban Development
    Helping Communities Grow
     
    PROGRAM:
    The Youthbuild program focuses on a few different areas;
    assisting low-income children in completing high school, providing on-site
    construction training experiences which result in housing for low-income and
    homeless families, fostering leadership skills, and promoting economic self-
    sufficiency.
     
    DEADLINE:
    June 21, 2005.
     
    FUNDING:
    Varies.
     
    ELIGIBILITY:
    Nonprofit 501(c)3 organizations, state/local housing agencies
    and state/local governments.

    EInstruction’s Engaging Kids to Learn
    Bringing Technology to the Forefront
     
    PROGRAM:
    EInstruction makes real-time, interactive, wireless response
    pads for classrooms. They are making their technology available through
    grants to schools and they are having a huge impact in classrooms around
    the world.
     
    DEADLINE:
    Open.
     
    FUNDING:
    36 Classroom Performance Systems (CPS), 9 per quarter to 3
    elementary, middle and high schools. The award will consist of 32 CPS
    Chalkboard and content containing thousands of CPS questions from Prentice
    Hall and Scott Foresman to supplement the winner’s teaching subject.
     
    ELIGIBILITY:
    Educators, whether already a CPS user or just learning about
    it.

    Wachovia Teachers and Teaching Initiative
    Providing Funds to Help Communities
     
    PROGRAM:
    Wachovia is one of the largest financial institutions in the
    country, and it is committed to helping the communities it serves. One of
    the focus areas of the Wachovia Foundation’s commitment is education, and
    the Wachovia Teachers and Teaching Initiative is a program that clearly
    supports education. The purpose of this program is to fund organizations
    that boost K-12 teacher recruitment, development, support, and retention.
    Ultimately, the goal of improving teaching is to improve student
    achievement.

    Applications by invitation only; if you feel your organization
    qualifies, you may write to Wachovia at 225 Water Street, Jacksonville,

    FUNDING:
    From $50,000 to $250,000.
     
    ELIGIBILITY:
    Nonprofit 501(c)3 organizations in one of the following
    states: Alaska, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Maryland,
    Mississippi, North Carolina, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, South
    Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, or Washington, D.C.
