Broadband Pilot Program (USDA)
PROGRAM
: The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Rural Utilities Services seeks
applications to provide broadband transmission service to rural communities. Grantees will
provide broadband services that will connect critical community facilities -- schools, libraries,
education centers, health care providers, law enforcement agencies, public safety organizations
as well as residents and businesses -- in rural, economically-challenged communities. Grantees
will provide services free of charge for at least two years and create a community center to
provide the computer access points to broadband connections.
DEADLINE
: November 5, 2002.
FUNDING
: $20 million.
ELIGIBILITY
: Public bodies; Indian tribes; a cooperative, nonprofit, limited dividend or
mutual association; municipality; an incorporated or limited liability company; or other legally
organized entity.

Americans For The Arts
PROGRAM
: Americans for the Arts, with the help of children’s entertainer Laurie Berkner and
Elefanten USA Shoes, has created the Steps to Art program to help fund preschool arts
programs. Grants will support the development of new or the enhancement of existing arts
education programs for preschoolers. Preference will be given to programs that have been in
existence for no more than two years.

August 16, 2002.
FUNDING
: Ten or more grants of $5,000 each.
ELIGIBILITY
: Local arts agencies and organizations working in partnership with one or more
preschools.

Tiger Woods Foundation
PROGRAM
: The mission of the Tiger Woods Foundation is to empower young people to reach
their highest potential by initiating and supporting community-based programs that promote the
health, education and welfare of all America’s children. The foundation supports projects that
serve children and families in the areas of health and welfare, education, parenting and youth
development.

PROGRAM
: The Help Us Help Foundation works to increase access to the Internet for
disadvantaged youth.

ELIGIBILITY
: K-12 public schools and public charter schools are eligible if 50% or more of
the student body qualify for the subsidized lunch program or can otherwise be documented as
low-income, and/or the school's most recent test scores indicate that students are struggling to
meet achievement standards.

Robert H. Michel Civic Education Grants
PROGRAM
: Robert H. Michel Civic Education Grants are intended to help teachers,
curriculum developers, and others improve the quality of civics instruction, with priority on the
role of Congress in our federal government.

: Proposals may be submitted at any time. Awards will be made two times per year
in October and May. To be considered, all application materials must be received by the first of
the month in which selections are made.
FUNDING
: $50,000 available in 2001-2002.
ELIGIBILITY
: Teachers, community and junior college faculty, and college and university
faculty are eligible to apply.

PROGRAM
: The Ford Motor Company funds educational programs that focus on building and
communicating best educational practices. The company is particularly interested in programs
that strengthen the employee-school relationship; provide quality educational programming
based on cultural arts programs; and increase the quality and quantity of enrichment programs.

The Bowerman Track Renovation Program
PROGRAM
: The Bowerman Track Renovation Program provides matching cash grants to
community-based, youth oriented organizations that seek to refurbish or construct running
tracks.
