Exemplary Education Projects (NEH)
PROGRAM
: The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) provides Exemplary
Education grants to schools, universities, libraries, museums, and other cultural institutions to
improve formal humanities education through development of humanities curricula and materials
and dissemination of humanities scholarships and teaching practices.
DEADLINE
: October 15, 2002.
FUNDING
: Up to $250,000 per grant depending on the project scope, its duration (up to three
years) and the number of participants. Funds can be used for: stipends for participating in
intensive study workshops; released time during the academic year; administrative costs and
necessary materials; and travel and honoraria for visiting scholars.
ELIGIBILITY
: Nonprofits or institutions.

Educational Advising Center and Coordinators (STATE)
PROGRAM
: The U.S. Department of State (STATE), Bureau of Educational and Cultural
Affairs is inviting applications for an educational advising center in Mexico City to focus on
providing information about postsecondary education opportunities in the United States; and for
regional educational advising coordinators to provide on-site technical assistance and training to
education advising centers in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean regions and to
coordinate establishment of any new advising centers requested by U. S. embassies in the region.
The center will provide information about U.S. colleges, universities and other accredited higher
education institutions; the application process; testing requirements; scholarship programs and
financial aid.
The coordinator program supports the education information centers which provide
comprehensive and unbiased information about study opportunities in the U.S. Coordinator
activities include sharing information and materials; communicating trends in U.S. education and
regional exchange; disseminating information on the latest developments in technology;
promoting professional development; and conducting workshops.
DEADLINE
: August 1, 2002.
FUNDING
: $70,000 for one advising center; up to $56,000 each for coordinators.

Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy
PROGRAM
: The Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy offers its 2003 national grant
competition. The Foundation's grant-making program seeks to develop or expand projects that
are designed to support the development of literacy skills for adult primary care givers and their
children.

PROGRAM
:
Eckerd Corporation in conjunction with 11 major vendor sponsors, is offering the
Give Your School a $Grant
program. This program champions financial support for education in
communities served by Eckerd and Genovese drugstores. See the ad in Eckerd newspaper
circulars on July 28.
DEADLINE
: August 31, 2002, for product purchase receipt; September 13, 2002, for entries.
FUNDING
: $60,000 total issued as 120 grants for $500 each to designated schools. Winning
entrant also receives a $50 Eckerd gift card.

: Any academic pre-school through university and college in all 20 Eckerd
states, including Florida.

Corning Incorporated Foundation
PROGRAM
: Corning Inc., maker of technologies and materials for a range of industries,
supports education, cultural, community and selected national organizations via the Corning Inc.
Foundation. Education grants have funded community service programs for students, curriculum
enrichment, student scholarships, facility improvement and classroom-based instructional
technology projects. Cultural gifts support institutions from arts organizations to libraries,
museums and public broadcasting stations. In the area of community service, the foundation
gives to a variety of organizations, including youth groups.
The foundation also has a higher
education program.
DEADLINE
: None.
FUNDING
: About 225 grants totaling $2.25 million annually.
ELIGIBILITY
: Nonprofit organizations, including K-12 schools.

Toshiba America Foundation Grants for Grades 7-12
PROGRAM
: The Toshiba America Foundation seeks to support projects designed by
classroom teachers to improve science and mathematics education for 7-12 grade students.
DEADLINE
: For small grants ($5,000 or less), decisions are made monthly and applications
accepted year-round. Requests for larger grants are reviewed twice a year and are due by the
first working day of August (for September consideration) or the first working day of February
(for March consideration).
FUNDING
: The average award for small grants is less than $4,000 each. For larger grants, the
average is $9,500 each. The foundation’s total annual grants budget is approximately $500,000.
ELIGIBILITY
: Classroom teachers must be involved in the planning of the program of grades
7-12 in public or private schools.
