ATTENDANCE PROGRAM REPORT
THIRD QUARTER REPORT 2004-2005
In the Department of Education’s continued effort to improve student attendance and to improve
student rates of learning, please find attached a copy of the report from the Department of
Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) for the third quarter of 2004-2005. This report
now includes manual additions and deletions by Department personnel. The names of students
transmitted to the DHSMV will be mailed under separate cover to your district’s Director of
Student Services. Our staff reviewed and compiled the information into a state summary that
reflects transactions processed for school districts from January 1, 2005, through March 31, 2005
(copy attached
).
This review also indicates that the following districts did not transmit data for
this quarter: Desoto, Glades, Gulf and Holmes.
For the third quarter of the school year 2004-2005:
•
3,688 students received Notices of Intent to Suspend Driving Privileges
•
3,538 Notices of Intent to Suspend Driving Privileges were deleted
•
11,454 Non-Licensed/Non-Compliance Letters were issued
•
8,380 Non-Licensed/Non-Compliance Letters were deleted
•
3,101 Suspension Orders were issued
•
2,705 Suspension Orders were cleared or deleted
•
119 students who reinstated their driving privilege received 2

suspension

Since the inception of the driver license program, Florida’s high school graduation rate has
increased from 60.2% in 1998-99 to 71.6% in the spring of 2004, an increase of nearly 19%.
Florida’s high school dropout rate has decreased 44.4% since the implementation of the driver
license program, from 5.4% in 1998-99 to 3% for 2003-04.
