The Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program offers
the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) most prestigious awards in support
of teacher-scholars who most effectively integrate research and education
activities within the context of the mission of their organization. Such
activities should build a firm foundation for a lifetime of integrated
contributions to research and education.

Tobacco Prevention and Teacher Training Project / Florida
Department of Education (FDOE)
Enhancing Tobacco Prevention and Intervention
PROGRAM:
The Tobacco Prevention and Teacher Training Project is
designed to enable districts to provide quality training for teachers to
implement effective tobacco prevention and intervention programs in their
classrooms and schools. Districts will have the opportunity to develop and
enhance tobacco prevention and intervention efforts.
DEADLINE:
May 10, 2005.
FUNDING:
$521,423 total; awards up to $50,000 per district.
ELIGIBILITY:
Florida public school districts with the exception of districts
that received funds for tobacco prevention and intervention teacher training
through the DOE’s Coordinated School Health Program for the 2004-05
school year.

st Century Community Learning Centers Program /
Florida Department of Education (FDOE)
Supporting Higher Student Achievement
PROGRAM:
The purpose of the 21
st Century Community Learning Centers
Program is to provide before school and after school, or summer programs,
for school-wide Title I students and their families. This program supports
the Florida Department of Education’s goal of higher student achievement by
providing high quality, extended learning opportunities throughout the state.

May 5, 2005.

Varies.
ELIGIBILITY:
Local education agencies (LEAs), community-based
organizations (CBOs), faith-based organizations, other public and private
entities, or a consortium of two or more such agencies, organizations, or
entities. The statute requires that an eligible organization make an effort to
collaborate with at least one other eligible entity. If collaboration is not
possible, applicant must provide justification.

Allstate Foundation
Helping Communities Succeed
PROGRAM:
The Allstate Foundation provides grants in three focus areas:
economic empowerment; safe and vital communities; and tolerance,
inclusion, and diversity. The Economic Empowerment initiative is a request
for monies for financial and insurance education, economic literacy, or
entrepreneurial business skill development programs. The Safe and Vital
Communities initiative is for grants that must address catastrophe response
and mitigation, neighborhood revitalization, or youth anti-violence. The
Tolerance, Inclusion, and Diversity initiative focuses on teaching tolerance to
youth, alleviating discrimination, and ending hate crimes.

Victor Clark Youth Incentive Program (VICYIP)
Experiencing the Ham Radio World
PROGRAM:
The Victor Clark Youth Incentive Program (VICYIP) offers grants
for organizations wishing to create or maintain after-school amateur radio
programs for youth and children. This program makes mini-grants available
to groups that demonstrate serious intent to promote participation in
amateur radio by youth and enrich the experience of radio amateurs under
the age of 18.

FUNDING:
Awards up to $1,000.
ELIGIBILITY:
High school radio clubs, youth groups, and general-interest
radio clubs that sponsor subgroups of young people.
