SUBJECT:

NOTICE OF REGIONAL PUBLIC HEARINGS REGARDING
FLORIDA EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP STANDARDS
Imperative #4 of the State Board of Education is
to
Improve the Quality of Instructional
Leadership. As a strategy to fulfill this imperative, the Florida Education Standards Commission
will be conducting a series of public hearings to seek input regarding the Florida Educational
Leadership Standards: Sample Key Indicators for the Entry Level Leader. The Educational
Leadership Standards were adopted in concept by the Florida State Board of Education in
January 2005 and are scheduled for adoption into State Board Rule at the State Board Meeting
on April 19, 2005. The Sample Key Indicators at the Entry Level were developed for school
districts and other institutions to use for the purpose of selecting entry level school
administrators, establishing executive leadership programs, planning professional development,
and conducting performance appraisal. The Sample Key Indicators are intended as guidelines;
school districts have the flexibility to modify as well as include additional sample key indicators
and other requirements to meet local needs for entry level administrative leadership
opportunities.
In addition, the Leadership Standards and Sample Key Indicators will form the basis of
competencies from which items to measure knowledge and skills will be developed for the
Florida Educational Leadership Examination (FELE). (A passing FELE score is a requirement
for state certification in Educational Leadership.)
