SUBJECT:

Imperative #1 of the State Board of Education is to Increase the Supply of Highly Effective
Teachers. As a strategy to fulfill this imperative, the Bureau of Educator Recruitment,
Development and Retention and the Florida Education Standards Commission will be examining
outcomes of the Dale Hickam Excellent Teaching Program. The objectives of this study are to
identify “Best Practices”
among the mentoring opportunities that are offered by districts to
National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) and to determine the impact of these
mentoring activities on increased student achievement.
To assist us in these two objectives, please provide the following documents and data:
♦
Your district’s and/or school’s guidelines for mentoring, form(s) for recording
mentoring hours and activities, and any other relevant documentation;
