Mary Laura Openshaw,
Director, Just Read, Florida!
SUBJECT:
Just Read, Florida! K-12 Leadersh
ip Conference
We are pleased to extend an invitation to the fourth annual Just Read, Florida! K-12 Leadership
Conference. Each year we host this conference for superintendents and principals, and this
summer promises to be the most exciting event ever! There will be numerous concurrent
sessions - all geared toward providing essential information to school leadership in the area of
reading. This year we are strongly recommending that all K-12 principals attend due to the
pending legislative funding of FEFP for reading as outlined in the K-12 Comprehensive District
Reading Plan.
The conference will convene June 13-15, 2005, at the Rosen Centre Hotel located in Orlando on
International Drive adjacent to the Orange County Convention Center. Registration begins at
7:00 AM on June 13
th
and the final general session ends at 3:30 PM on June 15th. Pre-
registration will be available on Sunday, June 12
th
at 6:00 PM. Participants are encouraged to
attend the full conference. There is no registration fee. We are asking that your district support
principals’ participation by reimbursing for travel and per diem.
The Just Read, Florida! Office is paying lodging for one school administrator and for district-
based personnel based upon your district’s size. Lodging will be provided for educators outside
a 50 mile radius. (You may choose to absorb the cost of lodging for educators who live inside
the 50 mile radius, and they will be housed at a nearby hotel.)
