    SUBJECT:
Upcoming Protocol Reviewer Training and Training on the Review Process

As we continue our efforts to implement the Professional Development Protocol,
    we are seeking
additional qualified individuals interested in serving as reviewers to conduct the on-site
    district professional development system reviews.
    Each year approximately 20-25 districts
will be reviewed. In 2004-05 we are visiting 25 districts. Each review lasts approximately 1-3
days. To train reviewers, we will conduct a two-day training session in Orlando, Florida on
    February 8-9, 2005.

The Department is soliciting experts in professional development to serve as reviewers for the
on-site reviews to be conducted in school districts. Reviewers for the new Protocol System will
be drawn from two sources: Department staff (including affiliate offices such as FDLRS), and
district professional development staff both active and retired. Additional reviewers will be
drawn from the regional consortia of the Panhandle Area Education Consortium (PAEC),
Heartland Education Consortium (HEC), and Northeast Florida Educational Consortium
(NEFEC). The Department also is soliciting professional development directors and
coordinators located in local school districts that will be willing to participate in the reviews.
    Qualifications for reviewers are:

Department of Education, regional consortium, or school district staff member

5 years or more in administrative positions in Florida education systems

2 years or more experience planning, conducting, and/or administering professional
    development programs.

    Memorandum
    December 15, 2004

Reviewers must make a commitment to conducting at least two reviews during the year for a
total commitment of 5-7 days over the course of the year and to participating in a two-day
training session to prepare for the role of reviewer. Reimbursement for travel and per diem
expenses for attending the training and serving as a reviewer will be provided through the
    Department at approved rates.

We welcome your participation in the exciting new effort. The reviewer application is available
online at http://www.floridaleaders.net/reviewerapp.php. Please have reviewer applicants
complete and submit the online form no later than January 14, 2005. Selected reviewers
applicants will be notified by email of their acceptance shortly after the deadline date.

Please disseminate this notice to others whom you believe meet the reviewer’s criteria and would
provide valuable contributions to improving the quality of professional development programs in
Florida. For further information contact Henry Pollock, Program Director, Educator Retention
by email at henry.pollock@fldoe.org. We look forward to our continued work together in
