The Legal Guide For New Adults
will help students who reach th
e age of 18 to understand their
rights and responsibilities. This pamphlet is designed to make new adults aware of laws that can
help to avoid problems in daily life. This publication may be ordered at no cost through The
Florida Bar Information and Bar Services at 1-800-342-8011. In addition, the pamphlet is
available on The Florida Bar’s internet website at www.FLABAR.org.
Throughout the 2004-2005 school term, volunteer attorneys of The Florida Bar Speakers Bureau
are available to share their education and experience with Florida students to help them better
understand topics ranging from personal rights, to the separation of powers, to the role lawyers
play in our society. During the school year there are opportunities such as Law Day, Career Day,
and The Great American Teach-In in which attorneys offer to volunteer their time to speak with
students. However, there does not need to be a special occasion for attorneys to come to your
classroom. More than 1500 attorney volunteers have expressed their willingness to attend
classrooms to discuss topics such as: the Constitution, the Role of Lawyers

in America, Juvenile and Criminal Courts, Dispute Resolution, the Bill of Rights, Challenges to
the Judiciary, The Juvenile Justice System, the Legal Rights and Responsibilities of New Adults,
and other legal topics. Attorneys are available to assist with extra-curricular activities in the
schools by judging mock trial competitions, coordinating teen courts, and educating students
about their legal rights and responsibilities as new adults. There is no fee for this service. To
