Demonstrations for Individuals with Disabilities (HHS/ADD)
PROGRAM
: The U.S. Health and Human Services Department (HHS), Administration on
Developmental Disabilities (ADD) is inviting applications for demonstration projects to create
new replicable strategies for learning, community integration, employment and personal
development for individuals with disabilities.
Priority categories include:
1.
Learning Through Assisting
2.
One Community for All Citizens
3.
Early Literacy and Education
4.
Increasing Access in Rural Communities
5.
Expanding Positive Youth Development
DEADLINE
: July 29, 2002.
FUNDING
: $2.5 million in fiscal year 2002 across the five priority categories. ADD will fund
five projects in each category of up to $100,000 a year each for two years. The required grantee
match is $1 nonfederal for every $3 federal, up to 25 percent of the total approved project cost.
ELIGIBILITY
: Eligibility may vary slightly by category, but includes some or all of the
following: state agencies, public and private nonprofit organizations, institutions and agencies,
including consortia. Community colleges are the only applicants for priority #5.

Target Stores All-Around Scholarships
PROGRAM
: Target Stores award these college scholarships to high-school and college
students who have been engaged in community service.
DEADLINE
:
November 1, 2002.
FUNDING
: Four $10,000 scholarships and more than 2,100 scholarships of $1,000 each.
ELIGIBILITY
: High school seniors, high school graduates and current college students (age 24
and under) who are or will be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate course of study. Preferences
will be given to students who live in Target store communities.

Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation
PROGRAM
: Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouses make grants to educational,
environmental, and community organizations through its charitable foundation. Preference goes
to projects that enhance the natural environment or to improve the overall community. In
addition, Lowe’s donates educational scholarships to individuals pursuing a two- or four-year
degree in a technical trade discipline (i.e., plumbing, electrical, HVAC).

Home Depot Stores Charitable Programs
PROGRAM
: Home Depot funds four focus areas in their charitable giving program: at-risk
youth, the environment, disaster preparedness and relief, and affordable housing.

: Nonprofits in Home Depot communities.

Cruise Industry Charitable Foundation
PROGRAM
: The Cruise Industry Charitable Foundation (CICF) supports projects that provide
youth and adult education (particularly for minority and disadvantaged students), improve access
to community services, encourage job creation and training, provide mentoring, teach basic life
skills, or boost literacy. Educational assistance and training programs, civic and community
development, environmental programs, and public health programs.

FUNDING
: Varies.
ELIGIBILITY
: Nonprofits in areas where CICF maintains vessel operations, generates
significant employment, or purchases goods and services.

Harry Chapin Foundation
PROGRAM
: The Harry Chapin Foundation, established to address the problems of the
disadvantaged and promote educational programs that lead to a greater understanding of human
suffering, makes grants under four focus areas: community education, arts in education,
agricultural programs, and environmental programs.
