Rescheduled Regional Meetings to Provide Technical Assistance Related to Third
Grade Student Progression
We are pleased to announce the rescheduling of five regional meetings in October, 2004, for the
purpose of providing technical assistance related to third grade student progression. The purpose
of these meetings is to provide information regarding the:

Requirements for student progression and third grade promotion including
the READ initiative, the Intensive Acceleration Class and good cause
exemptions
Requirements for the student portfolio
Provision of immediate intensive intervention
Mid-year promotion policies
Academic Improvement Plans (AIP)
Ninety minute instructional block for reading
Family involvement
Timelines for reporting

We invite you to send a team from your district representing school and district administrators,
the reading and/or language arts supervisors, teachers, coaches and student services personnel
who are, or will be, involved in decisions and provisions of services. The meeting will include
opportunities to share ideas, best practices and strategies among colleagues.
Attached please find the schedule and locations for the rescheduled meeting sites. Each meeting
is to begin at 9:00 AM and end at 3:00 PM. Registration will be conducted online from
September 20-29, 2004 at www.justreadflorida.com/conference.
Those who registered for the
original workshop dates will receive an automatic confirmation notice for the rescheduled
dates. A second registration is not required
. If you are unable to attend, please notify our
office by responding to the confirmation notice. If you need to stay overnight, please ask for the
government rate for the Department of Education. Districts are asked to sponsor any travel cost
incurred for this meeting.
Each team member from your district should register, or one member of the team may register
for all participants. If one person registers for all, please be advised that a new web browser
screen is required for each new registration.
We look forward to meeting with you at these forums and hope that this valuable information
will support your efforts in providing the highest quality educational experiences for all Florida
