As you may recall, Mentoring Programs, originally called Mentoring for Success, is a
competitive grant program for mentoring organizations that was created in December
2001 by Congress. The program is administered by the Department of Education’s Safe
and Drug Free Schools and Communities Office.
The grant program is designed to provide flexible grants that empower local programs to
address community needs. Local direct-service mentoring organizations are eligible to
apply. Applicants must either be non-profit organizations, local educational agencies, or
partnerships of the two. Existing or developing mentoring programs may also apply.
