pursuant to s. 230.23(16), after one full school year of planning and development, or does not
comply with school advisory council membership composition requirements pursuant to s.
229.58(1).”
The 2002 due date for assurance of compliance is

This year, we are again asking for letters from districts to certify the following information:
•
?
Whether
ALL
schools in the district have a new, amended, or continuing school
improvement plan approved by the school board for the 2002-2003 school year as of
June 30, 2002.
•
?
Whether
ALL
schools in the district have school advisory councils with a majority of its
members not employed at the school as of
June 30, 2002.
•
?
Whether
ALL
schools in the district have school advisory councils that are composed of
the principal and an appropriately balanced number of teachers, education support
employees, students, parents, and other business and community citizens who are
representative of the ethnic, racial, and economic community served by the school.
•
?
Whether your district would like to request technical assistance from the Department of
Education to reach compliance for active school plans or appropriate school advisory
councils.
Should any schools NOT be in compliance, please attach a list of schools, by school number and
name, for any of the bulleted criteria shown above.
Your district letter should be co-signed by the School Board Chair, however, the
Superintendent’s signature alone will suffice to meet the immediate deadline. Co-signed letters
should follow as soon as possible. You may overnight-mail the letter to the Office of School
Improvement, 325 West Gaines Street, Room 424, Tallahassee, Florida 32399-0400, or you may
fax it to either 850-487-0716 or 850-487-6247.
If you have questions or concerns, please contact the Office of School Improvement for
assistance.
Your continued focused improvement efforts can only enhance the quality of
education of all of Florida’s students.
Thank you.
