SUBJECT:
FASA Conference
The past 12 months have been particularly challenging for Florida’s school leaders. Demands to
meet the requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act, class size, an increasingly diverse
student population, and issues related to school safety and security have greatly magnified the
challenges that educational leaders face daily.
The attendance of educational leaders at the
Florida Association of School Administrators,
Summer Conference in Marco Island
is important. This is an exceptional professional
development opportunity hosted by FASA that I encourage you and your staff to take part in.
At the Summer Institute, FASA is providing the introduction to the first ESOL module for
school-based administrators in response to the amended Consent Decree, which requires every
school-based administrator to obtain 60 hours of ESOL training. The development of this course
is the result of a partnership between the Department of Education, FASA, Canter and Associates
and Santillana USA. I hope your district’s school-based leaders will avail themselves to the
ESOL opportunity, along with the many other timely topics from which to choose while at the
conference.
As a superintendent, I know you support ongoing professional development for educational
leaders. Thank you in advance for allowing the leadership in your district to attend this important
event.
