DRIVER LICENSE/SCHOOL ATTENDANCE PROGRAM REPORT
THIRD QUARTER REPORT 2003-2004
Please find attached a copy of the report from the Department of Highway Safety and
Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) for the third quarter of 2003-2004. This report now includes
manual additions and deletions by department personnel. The names of students
transmitted to the DHSMV will be mailed under separate cover to your district’s Director
of Student Services. Our staff reviewed and compiled the information into a state
summary that reflects transactions processed for school districts from January 1, 2004,
through March 31, 2004 (
Attachment 1).
Although data were received from Franklin,
Glades, Gulf and Highlands County School Districts, data were not received in time to
be processed by DHSMV for inclusion in this quarterly report. This review also indicates
that Jefferson County School District did not report during the third quarter.

The Technical Assistance Paper on Implementation of Attendance Requirements for
Minors to Maintain Their Driving Privilege directs school districts to transmit student
data to DHSMV at least once a week.
Districts reporting students as soon as they withdraw from school or accumulate 15
unexcused absences in 90 calendar days are more successful at retrieving dropouts
and improving student attendance. Implementation of these requirements can improve
district dropout and attendance rates.
If you have questions regarding your data, please contact Donald Klein, DHSMV, at
(850) 488-3288. If you have questions concerning policies and procedures relating to
the implementation of the driver license/school attendance program requirements,
please refer to the Technical Assistance Paper on Implementation of Attendance
Requirements for Minors to Maintain Their Driving Privilege or contact Rich Downs via
email at rdowns@tempest.coedu.usf.edu or by telephone at (850) 922-3732, or
SunCom 292-3732.
