Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and
Science / National Science Foundation (NSF)
Identifying Outstanding Math and Science Teachers
PROGRAM
: The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and
kindergarten through 6th grade, in each state and the four U.S. jurisdictions.
These teachers will serve as models for their colleagues and will be leaders
in the improvement of science and mathematics education.
DEADLINE
: May 1, 2004.
FUNDING
: $10,000 and expenses to attend recognition ceremonies in
Washington, D.C.
ELIGIBILITY
: K-6 teachers who work in a public or private school who are
full-time employees of their school districts, with at least five years teaching
experience prior to application.

Kellogg’s Child Development Award
Recognizing People who Dedicate their Lives to Children
PROGRAM
: The Kellogg’s Child Development award is co-sponsored by
World of Children and recognizes courageous people who brighten children's
future by greatly improving their opportunities to learn and grow.
DEADLINE
: April 26, 2004.
FUNDING
: $100,000.
ELIGIBILITY
: Those who have dedicated their lives to serving children.

Lemelson-MIT InvenTeams
Encouraging Inventiveness in High School Students
PROGRAM
: The Lemelson-MIT Program for Invention and Innovation foster
inventiveness in high school students. Their goal is to excite young people
about inventing. They provide grant support to high school-age invention
teams for projects developed during the academic year. InvenTeams are
formed by high school students, their teachers and industry mentors for the
purpose of inventing something of value for their school or local
communities.
DEADLINE
: May 7, 2004.
FUNDING
: Up to $10,000 per grant.
ELIGIBILITY
: Teachers from public, private, charter and vocational
programs.

Robert H. Michel Civic Education Grants
Improving the Quality of Civic Instruction
PROGRAM
: The Robert H. Michel Civic Education Grants help teachers
improve the quality of civics instruction, with priority on the role of Congress
in our federal government. Areas of interest include designing lesson plans,
creating student activities, and applying instructional technology in the
classroom.
DEADLINE
: May 1, 2004.
FUNDING
: Total award of $35,000, individual awards vary.
ELIGIBILITY
: 6-12 Teachers, community and junior college faculty, and
college and university faculty. Priority will be given to the following
disciplines: history, government, social studies, and political science.
Institutions and organizations are eligible under certain conditions (see

Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation (MEAF)
Helping Young Americans with Disabilities
PROGRAM
: The Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation is dedicated to
helping young Americans with disabilities maximize their potential and full
participation in society. The Foundation supports organizations and projects
within its mission that address important needs, have broad scope and
impact, and demonstrate potential for replication at other sites.
A major program emphasis is inclusion: enabling young people with
disabilities to have full access to educational, vocational and recreational
opportunities and to participate alongside their non-disabled peers.
DEADLINE
: Letters of inquiry are accepted year-round, those invited to
submit full proposals must do so by June 1, 2004.

: Varies.

Graphic Arts Education and Research Foundation (GAERF)
Supporting the Graphic Arts
PROGRAM:
GAERF provides full grants and mini grants to support the
graphic arts. Full grants are distributed in three focus areas: standard,
teacher conferences and continuing grants. A standard grant covers a
specific time period, normally one year, but may be continued or renewed.
Teacher conference grants are funded for specific one to two-week periods
and are normally held in the summer months. A continuing grant is for a
specific time period and level of support with a statement of intent to
provide additional support of the project, provided funds are available and
the results achieved warrant further support. Funding is normally in one-
year increments. Also, GAERF gives up to four mini-grants per year (see
website for more details).

: Full grants: May 30, 2004; mini-grants: open.
FUNDING
: Full grants: varies; mini-grant
s: up to four grants of $2,500
each.
ELIGIBILITY
: Graphic arts teachers, institutions, students and graduate
students.
