SUBJECT: Assistive Technology for Students with Disabilities Technical Assistance Paper
and The Transfer of Assistive Technology to Home, Other Districts, Other
Schools, and Other Agencies Technical Assistance Paper
The Department of Education, Bureau of Instructional Support and Community Services, is
committed to providing information to assist staff and families to meet the needs of students
using assistive technology.
We are pleased to provide you with a copy of two technical
assistance papers (TAPs), “Assistive Technology for Students with Disabilities” and “The
Transfer of Assistive Technology to Home, Other Districts, Other Schools, and Other Agencies.”
The “Assistive Technology for Students with Disabilities” TAP addresses general issues of
assistive technology ownership, and provides educators and families with basic information
regarding the use of assistive technology for students with disabilities. This TAP includes the
definition of assistive technology and services, federal mandates, frequently used acronyms,
resources, and references.
The Transfer of Assistive Technology TAP is organized in a question and answer format
addressing frequently asked questions in the areas of

owning, purchasing, and maintaining assistive technology
•
transfer of assistive technology devices
