We are pleased to inform you that the 2004-2005 Request for Proposals (RFPs) and Request for Applications
(RFAs) in the areas of Adult Education and Family Literacy and Carl D. Perkins are nearing completion and
will be posted on the Department of Education’s (DOE) web page soon. In preparation for this process, we
have scheduled eight regional drive-in workshops to provide assistance to grant writers and grant
administrators. There is no charge for attending a workshop, but due to space limitations pre-registration is
required. Please visit our website at http://info.doe.state.fl.us/register/workforce for workshop dates,
locations and registration. You will receive an e-mail confirmation of your registration, including location
    and driving directions.

Although DOE does not require the State Board of Education (SBE) to sign grant applications, many districts,
colleges and other eligible agencies do. Now would be a good time to submit a request to be placed on the
applicable SBE agenda to ensure your signature process is complete before the RFP/RFA due dates. The
proposed due date for many of the applications is now May 7, 2004. Be sure to follow the guidelines on each
individual RFP/RFA as due dates may possibly vary, depending on final approval and web posting date.

While everyone is welcome to attend these workshops, we especially encourage those responsible for
preparation and administration of grants to attend. The RFPs/RFAs this year have some additional new
components as well as revised performance schedules and invoicing forms. The new forms have been
extensively field-tested, and we are sure you will find them much easier to use.

If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact your program manager in the
Division of Community Colleges and Workforce Education, Office of Grants Administration, or Teresa
Bestor, Program Director, at (850) 245-9047 or via e-mail at teresa.bestor@fldoe.org.
