Usher Syndrome Screening
State Board of Education Rule 6A-6.03013 (3)(d), Florida Administrative Code, states that
students who are eligible for programs for students who are deaf or hard of hearing are required
to have a screening for Usher Syndrome between grades 6 and 12. The Florida Department of
Education is collaborating with the Florida Outreach Project for Children and Young Adults who
are Deaf-Blind (FOP) to determine how districts are implementing this portion of the State Board
of Education Rule in order to best assess training needs of district personnel.
