Sunshine State Young Reader's Award Program
The Sunshine State Young Reader's Award Program is a statewide reading motivation program
for students in grades 3-8. The program, cosponsored by the School Library Media Services
Office of the Department of Education and the Florida Association for Media in Education,
began in 1983. In 2000-2001 there were over 1,000 public schools and 60 non-public schools
participating. Over 73,000 students read enough books to qualify for voting in the statewide
balloting for their favorite book for the year.
