    Project timelines and award amounts
    Applications are due at the close of business on February 2, 2004.
    Projects will be funded from March 1, 2004, through June 30, 2005.
    Selected projects will be awarded between $15,000 and $25,000.
    Focus of grant projects

    What is the primary focus of the grant projects?
    University teams will submit plans for restructuring their preservice
    preparation programs in order to prepare teachers who are qualified to
    teach not only special education, but also secondary core academic
    subjects while satisfying the “highly qualified” requirements of the
    No
    Child Left Behind Act of 2001
    . Bonus points will be awarded to
    applications that focus on restructuring all college/university preservice
    teacher preparation programs so that all personnel, including those in
    general education, will be prepared to teach all students.

    Are restructured programs expected to be operational by the end of the
    grant period?
    Yes, restructured programs will be expected to be operational by August
    2005.

    Can several institutions collaborate on a project?
    Yes, several institutions may collaborate on one project but one of the
    institutions must agree to be the sole fiscal agent for submission of the
    applications and for receiving funds from the Department of Education.

    Does the range in award amounts change for collaborative projects?
    Funding for collaborative projects will be determined by the number of
    institutions collaborating on the effort and the extent of restructuring
    occurring in preservice programs at each institution.

    Who is eligible to apply?
    Faculty and other staff from Florida public or private colleges and
    universities with approved preservice personnel preparation programs for
    K-12 special education and secondary general education are eligible to
    apply for grant funds.
