School Readiness Uniform Screening System (SRUSS) Results –
Communicating with Parents
The purpose of this memo is to encourage kindergarten teachers to share the results of the School
Readiness Uniform Screening System (SRUSS) with the parents of their kindergarten students.
A random survey of a small sample of kindergarten teachers completed last school year revealed
that a substantial percentage of the respondents had not shared the results of the screening
instruments with parents. While teachers do not need to organize special opportunities to convey
this information, a discussion of the results should be embedded in routinely scheduled parent-
teacher conferences. Teachers should be reminded that the scoring booklet for the Early
Screening Inventory-Kindergarten (ESI-K), and the score sheets and any related documentation
for the Work Sampling System (WSS) or Ready-for-School Behavioral Screener provide the
information needed to report on a student’s performance. Please note that our guidance on this

Readiness Uniform Screening instruments with their students. Additionally, the support of the
