SUBJECT
:
Candidate Subsidy Program/Retake Funds
The Federal Government and the Washington Mutual Foundation, through the
National Board
for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS)
Candidate Subsidy Program,
have made funds
available to the State of Florida to subsidize retake exercises for National Board candidates who
were unsuccessful in their attempt for National Board Certification. The Federal Government
has awarded
$270,000
and the Washington Mutual Foundation,
$25,000
. The funds will be used
to subsidize at least one retake exercise for
first-time
2002-2003
retake candidates.
The cost of
each retake exercise is
$300.
Recipients of retake subsidies will be determined by lottery
drawing. The requirements for participation, guidelines, and timelines for the retake subsidy are
explained in this memorandum.
In mid-November 2003, all
2002-2003
NBPTS applicants will receive score report profiles from
the NBPTS indicating the results of certification assessments. Successful achievement of
National Board Certification is indicated by attaining a
2.75
total score for portfolio and written
assessments.
Each 2002-2003 candidate achieving a score less than 2.75 will be an eligible
subsidy candidate and will be notified by the Dale Hickam Excellent Teaching Program of
the retake opportunity by the attached 2002-2003 Retake Subsidy Application.
