2002-2003 Matching Programs Expenditure Reports
DUE DATE: OCTOBER 30, 2003
In recent years, legislative staff has requested that we supply “hard” data (as opposed to strictly
anecdotal) that shows the number and types of students we are serving through the college matching
programs. They suggested that the provision of “har
d” data would aid in the continued expansion of
matching programs. Therefore, I am requesting that you complete the attached surveys/reports for 2002-
2003. The reports are Excel spreadsheets containing two pages.

Page 1 is the Scholarships portion of the Dr. Philip Benjamin Matching Program for Community
Colleges which contains: (1) a brief description of how the funds were used, (2) the number of
awards separated by part-time and full-time students, (3) the amount of the awards separated by
part-time and full-time students, and (4) the number of awards and amount of awards for full-time
and part-time students based on financial need.

Legislative staff and their members are still enthused about the ability of our programs to provide an
ongoing source of financial aid for all types of students. They are aware that these programs are a way to
meet the financial needs of a broad array of students.
I believe that it is important for us to collect and provide this type of information to the Legislature and
other interested parties. We do a tremendous job with our matching programs, and this data will help
document and demonstrate the success of our programs, particularly in the area of financial aid.
