MEMORANDUM

FROM:
Jim Warford
DATE:
September 23, 2003
SUBJECT:
Data Collection for Mentoring Program Activities
On August 14, 2003, you received a memo from Lavan Dukes, Chief of the Bureau of Educational
Information and Accountability Services, regarding Data Collection for Mentoring Program Activities.
There is a new requirement this year necessitating the collection of data regarding student participation in
mentoring activities.
Traditionally, your district Volunteer Coordinators are the points of contact for mentoring programs that
operate outside the jurisdiction of the local school system such as the Boys and Girls Clubs, Big
Brothers/Big Sisters, etc., and for mentoring programs that operate within the jurisdiction of the local
school system. As the contact for these activities, we know they will play an important role in
coordinating the data collection activities. It is important that the district Volunteer/Mentoring
Coordinators, mentoring program contacts and the district’s MIS units work closely together on this
important activity.
The Office of Family and Community Outreach in collaboration with the Bureau of Educational
Information and Accountability Services will provide technical assistance about collecting and reporting
data for mentoring programs at the Fall Leadership Workshop in Tallahassee on October 20-21, 2003.
Information regarding this workshop will be sent to each district in the next few weeks.
We look forward to working with you and providing as much assistance as possible as we move into this
new phase of data collection. If you have any questions, please contact Marv Patterson in the Office of
Family and Community Outreach at 850/245-0821 or SC 205-0821.
