Dear Superintendents:
As you begin another school year and continue to strive toward continuous improvement, it is a
pleasure to announce that it is once again time to begin the recognition process for the 2003-2004
Five Star Schools. The Five Star School Award creates an impetus to pursue excellence through
community/business partnerships, family involvement, volunteers, student community service,
and School Advisory Councils.
In order to continue to recognize outstanding schools for this award, the criteria have been
carefully reviewed. Changes have been made to clarify categories and to challenge enterprising
schools to reach for higher standards in the pursuit of continuous improvement. I hope that each
of you will encourage schools in your district to apply for this distinguished award.
A copy of the Five Star School Award is attached for your review. Your district volunteer
coordinator has been sent an electronic copy with the changes noted so that this award can be a
part of their fall training. I look forward to working with you in the 2003-04 school year.
Sincerely,
Jim Warford
