INVITATION TO THE 2003 SUMMER WORKSHOP FOR MIDDLE AND
SECONDARY PHYSICAL EDUCATORS
Your district is invited to send interested physical education teachers to participate in the
upcoming secondary physical education summer institute sponsored by the Department of
Education, the Florida Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Dance (FAHPERD),
and the University of Central Florida (UCF). This workshop will greatly benefit middle school
and high school teachers by updating them on the latest physical education topics and by helping
teachers to empower students with the knowledge and skills to be physically active for a lifetime.
The topics planned for the summer institute include:

The intent of this workshop is to offer curriculum strategies to enhance and improve existing
middle and secondary physical education programs. This will be a combination lecture and
participation workshop held in the gymnasiums, classrooms, and strength training facilities at the
national training center located on the UCF West Campus and National Training Center in
Clermont, Florida (near Disney).

Participants can register for the workshop by filling out the attached registration form or by
downloading a registration form at www.fahperd.org. Participants at the workshop will receive a
certificate for their completion of the workshop and will be eligible for ten in-service points
pursuant to individual district policies in the master in-service plan. Register today - space is
limited and the deadline for registration is June 13, 2003.
Note: UCF will offer a graduate class for re-certification (Current Trends in Physical Education).
Students would attend the institute (6/25-26) and summarize those sessions they attend. The
other 20-30 hours would be researching, reporting, and interacting with others about current
trends with an on-line format. This class is NOT a part of the workshop activity or fee. Contact

Participants will be responsible for making individual hotel reservations, however, for your
convenience special room rates have been secured as follows. A rate of $65.00 + taxes per

night at the Holiday Inn-Clermont (352) 243-7878; $60.99 + taxes per night at the Red Roof
Inn (407) 347-0140 (10 miles from UCF); and $43.99 + taxes per night at the Clermont
Howard Johnson Express Inn 1-800-406-1411 (20 minutes from UCF). In order to obtain a
special rate participants must call no later than June 13, 2003 and secure a room under the
Summer Workshop/PE Block.
The cost of the summer workshop is $62 for non-FAHPERD members, $42 for FAHPERD
members, or $82 for the Summer Workshop + 1 year FAHPERD Membership (please visit
the FAHPERD website for membership benefits). To register for the workshop,
participants need to mail their registration form and payment to Carol Sisco, Executive
Director of FAHPERD, by Friday, June 13, 2003, by using the attached registration form.
Please make sure that persons copied are signed-up to receive correspondence from the
