    SUBJECT:
Transferability of TABE Scores between Institutions

Rule 6A-10.040 provides a list of approved assessment instruments that are used to assess the basic
skills of individuals pursuing a career and technical education. The scores from these tests are valid
for a period of two (2) years.

Since TABE is the most commonly used test for this purpose and many students transfer between
institutions, it is imperative that public institutions accept an official copy of test scores from other
public institutions. This should be either in electronic version or a sealed envelope from the
institution that administered the test to the institution that the student is transferring to. The
information should include the date the test was taken, the level of the TABE administered and the
scores from each subtest along with the complete battery score. This saves the student time and
money in being retested whenever they transfer between institutions.
