    Pursuant to Section 236.08106, Florida Statutes, which created the Florida Excellent Teaching
    Program (ETP), renamed the Dale Hickam Excellent Teaching Program, Section 1012.72,
    Florida Statutes, please be advised that funds for payment of the
    annual
     
    mentoring bonus
    for
    National Board Certified Teachers (NBCT’s) will be forthcoming via electronic funds transfer.
    The Dale Hickam Excellent Teaching Program
    mentoring bonus
    for the
    2002-2003
    school year
    is based on a calculation of ten percent (10%) of the statewide average
    2001-2002
    teacher’s
    salary,
    $3,927.50
    .

    Mentoring Bonus Memorandum
    March 24, 2003
     
     
     
    Effective July, 2002, the mentoring bonus became compensation for retirement as specified
    in Section 121.021 (22) (a) 6., Florida Statutes.
    When 7.65 percent for the district’s share of
    FICA, which is
    $300.45
    , and 5.76 percent for retirement, which is
    $226.22
    , are added, the total
    amount to be forwarded to the district for each qualified NBCT is
    $4,454.17
    .
    The district shall
    determine the appropriate individual withholding for each qualified National Board
    Certified Teacher, make the deductions, and pay the remaining bonus to each teacher.
     
    Beginning
    April 1, 2003
    , through
    June 16, 2003
    , district Excellent Teaching Program contacts
    will submit to the Department of Education a mentoring bonus request for each National Board
    Certified Teacher who
    opted to mentor
    . The
    June 16, 2003
    , deadline allows the Dale Hickam
    Excellent Teaching Program to process and pay the bonuses by
    June 30, 2003
    , the end of the
    fiscal year. Upon receipt of the requests, a mentoring bonus will be processed for each qualified
    NBCT and electronically transferred to the district for payment.
