    FROM:
    Cheri Pierson Yecke, Ph.D.

    DATE:
    March 17, 2006

    SUBJECT:
Online Reporting of Alternative Assessment Results for English Language
    Learners (ELLs)

In order to ensure highest student achievement for all students, and in accordance with Florida’s
Accountability System and Title I of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, school districts are
required to annually assess the academic achievement of all students, including English
Language Learners/Limited English Proficient (ELL/LEP) students. For students identified as
ELL/LEP and served in an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program twelve
months or less, an alternative academic assessment may be administered by majority action by
the LEP Committee. School districts are required to report to the Department the results of all
via the 2005-2006 ELL Alternative Assessment
    Online (web-based) Reporting System.
