Future Trends: Teaching, Learning, and Technology
Your district is invited to send music teachers to participate in the upcoming Conference

Department of Education (DOE) and the Technology Institute for Music Education (TI:ME). The
conference activities begin on Wednesday, January 4, and end on Saturday, January 7, 2006, at
the Tampa Convention Center. TI:ME is holding it’s national conference in conjunction with the
FMEA Conference and will feature presentations by leaders in music technology from
throughout the United States with a concentration of technology presentations at the pre-
conference on Wednesday, January 4. There is a small registration fee of $50 to attend the pre-
conference. Additionally, pre-conference sessions on literacy and reading will offer model
lessons demonstrated by successful Florida music teachers. Evan Lefsky, the Department of
Education Secondary Reading Specialist, will also make a presentation and be available for

music teachers at all levels of instruction. Sessions are planned for special education,
multicultural music, instrumental and choral music, general classroom music, music integration
strategies connected to FCAT, classroom management, rigor and relevance in the music room,
and research. K-20 music educators will have the opportunity to be updated on the latest issues,
strategies, and methodologies in music education. There will be a combination of lecture and
participation sessions.
The Thursday General Session Speaker is Dr. David Williams, Professor of Music Education at
Illinois State University, a pioneer in technology in music education and the former chair of the
Committee on Opportunities to Learn Standards in Music and Technology. The Friday General
Session will include a performance by the Florida West Coast Symphony. Special performances
by the U.S. Army Woodwind Quintet and the Inagakuen Soto High School Band from Japan will
also be a part of the Conference.
In addition to the over 200 workshop opportunities for teachers, the FMEA Conference features
one of the largest music industry vendor shows in the United States. Attendees will have the
opportunity to explore the latest materials and resources for the music classroom. The
Elementary, Middle and High School All-State rehearsals and concerts are also a part of the
conference.
