LAE 5932 – Teaching Content Reading in Middle
and High School Competency One
LAE 5932
meets Competency One of the reading en-
dorsement and there are no pre-requisite requirements.
Eligibility:
All secondary teachers, reading coaches
and secondary school teams are eligible to participate in
the online course and will be given registration priority.
Elementary teachers can participate on a space avail-
able basis.
Course materials:
Each student admitted to the course
will be provided free access to course materials. Each
student will be provided a username and password
which will enable them to access the website and
course assignments. Students are expected to check the
website and their e-mail twice weekly.

Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis beginning
February 14, 2005, and is limited to Florida public school
teachers. All secondary teachers, secondary reading
coaches and secondary school teams are eligible to partici-
pate in the online course and will be given registration
priority. Elementary teachers can participate on a space
This course is available for all secondary teachers who
need or want the endorsement, secondary reading coaches,
and secondary school teams. We are encouraging inter-
ested high school and middle school teams to register as a
group. There are 250 spaces allocated for middle and high
school teams, so please form your teams and register as
soon as possible. Elementary teachers and coaches may
sign up for this course if space is available.
FSU will coordinate approximately 29 sections (35 partici-
pants per section) throughout the 2005 school year, serv-
ing up to 1,000 teachers. Each section will be delivered
by a highly qualified university professor over the course
of a ten week semester. Multiple sections, dependent
upon demand, will be offered simultaneously.
Just Read, Florida! is pleased to offer a Competency
One online course entitled

satisfies Competency One of the reading endorsement.
This course is sponsored by the Just Read, Florida! Of-
fice in the Florida Department of Education. The Cen-
ter for Educational Research and Policy Studies
(CERPS) at Florida State University (FSU is coordi-
nating the online course and registration.

The Competency One inservice point option is offered
to participants at no cost. Students choosing the three
hour graduate credit option will be required to person-
ally cover the cost of tuition, which is $654.53.
Registration opens on February 14, 2005. Please regis-
ter at the following website:
Registration requires the applicant to include personal
and school information. In order to register as a team,
please select a team name and enter it into the desig-
nated field upon registration. Each applicant can then
reference that team name when they register.
On the registration form, there is a place to indicate if
the student is seeking graduate credit. Graduate credit
students who participate in the online course are re-
sponsible for insuring that they receive graduate credit
in their respective programs of study.
Registration confirmations will be sent once a student is
admitted into a class or given a place on the waiting list.
